• Any Prescribed drug or medicine qualifies to make a claim against income tax.
• Over the counter medicines are not valid at this time to claim against income tax.

 

• The quickest way to make a claim is by using Revenues My Account web page where there is a simple registration process. (we havn't used it ourselves but Revenue claim its simple!)

 

• Alternatively a Med1 form can be printed and sent into Revenue to make your claim.
• The Med1 form covers all allowable health claims including Hospital visits, certain dental procedures etc.
• Its probably best to make the claim at the end of each year.
• Rememebr to claim all expenses allowable including paying for family members such as children etc

 

• Medicine expenses are claimable at the 20% rate, so for example if your medicine bill at the end of the year was €500, 20% of €500 = €100. Therefore Revenue will add €100 to your personal tax credits, reducing tax paid at the 20% rate by €100.
• The €2.50 GMS levy is also included in allowable medicine expense claims.
